With the hiring of 29 new employees, equal to 18% of the total, the overall workforce grows at the same time, thus bringing the increase of the last three years to 35%.The growth process has been established, thanks to the increase into the international distribution, now corrisponding to 62% of the total, and the key role of the monobrand stores, strategic for a proper enhancement of the exclusive technical and stylistic qualities of the company proposal. A distribution development confirmed by the worldwide numerous showroom openings during 2018 showroom in the world, expected to further increase in the current year. The positive trend affects the workforce, with an increase of 35%, the production reality with the installation of new generation plants and logistics, with important structural investments. The results on the sustainability front have also been important: after 10 years from the installation of the three photovoltaic plants on the roof of the plant, the threshold of 9 million kWh has been exceeded, thus allowing a total saving of about 4,800 tons of carbon dioxide.
The novelties of the 2018 collection and the new general catalog has been the protagonists of the event that took place during the winter holidays in the Italian mono-brand showrooms..

Every year Rimadesio commits a different photographer to the interpretation of the exclusive surfaces of the collection and presents the result within the Stories and Matters volume. After Santi Caleca and Nicolas Polli, this year the theme has been committed to Tommaso Sartori, who presented glass, metals, wood veneers, leathers and fabrics as extraordinary protagonists of miniature architectural compositions. A photographic project enhancing the different surface quality, through a sophisticated play of reflections and transparencies.
The sixth consecutive year of increase for Rimadesio, that exceeds the threshold of a 50-million turnover for the first time in its history, marking a new and memorable record. With a closing of €50.3 million, the forecasts made at the beginning of the year have definitely been more than confirmed, with an increase over the previous year of 20% and even 51% on the 2015 financial statements. An important contribution to the achievement of these results comes from the strong growth of the worldwide monobrand stores. Record-breaking figures also for the workforce: after closing 2016 with 13 new recruitments, 11 new permanent employees were added last year to support production, sales and technical departments.
Built by the Shanghai Longfeng Enterprise Group and recently renovated by Hong Kong's successful interior design studio "Steve Leung Design SLD", the Royal Pavilion is made of twin skyscrapers, each of 39 floors and 130 meters high, located in the heart of the residential area of Shanghai. In the design world the term Style used to have a negative meaning, while today it implies a constitutive and fundamental part of any creative work. The economist Luca Solca, one of the most prominent contemporary luxury brand analysts, has reminded us about it. Encouraged by Michele Lupi, Solca has referred to the fashion and high-end world, turning deeply inside out the concept of luxury in general but also in the changes due to a more and more e-commerce society. He illustrated the need to think in terms of exclusivity, as well as continuous innovation, explaining the risks of the so-called "old sale". A lesson that, coming from an area parallel to the furniture field, is useful, in order to prevent any mistakes and to identify possible strategies.
Each year ADI, the Industrial Design Association, through its Permanent Observatory, selects the best projects with products or theoretical and business communication. The resulting publication, called ADI Design Index, aims at identifying ideal models for research, design and technical and expressive quality, a valuable contribution to the development of our culture. With great pride Rimadesio informs about the presence in the 2017 edition of two projects: Sail sliding panels, Giuseppe Bavuso design, and Rimadesio 60 monograph, Juma design..

What would be, in the near future, the technological applications that will mostly affect our daily life?
Matteo Pirola, professor at the Politecnico di Milano, interviewed for this reason Angelo Cangelosi, one of the world's leading experts in Artificial Intelligence. The talk, that tried to clarify such an actual topic, was about caregiver robots, anthropomorphic robots that learn to talk, trust issues between man and robots and moral responsibilities of a driving robot.
Always caring at environmental issues, Rimadesio has recently adopted three Bmw i3 cars and a 100% electric Nissan van. The choice, coupled with the installation of a new generation recharging station, allows to leverage self-produced energy, thanks to the powerful photovoltaic system. A virtuous journey that will very shortly develop with the total conversion to the electrical of all the means of transport business.
Situated in a green area at the edge of the city of Sondrio, the villa is harmoniously integrated into the mountain landscape characterized by the typical vineyards of Valtellina. The project, by Damilanostudio Architects, is developed on a 750 square meters surface divided in two areas connected by a common covered porch, in line with its access: on one hand the car park and the guesthouse, on the other side the residence of the owners.
Rimadesio participates to the Arch. Duilio Damilano's project with Velaria Sliding panels together with Moon doors and Manta table in Emperador marble finishing. A Cover storage system welcomes you into the apartment.
The ninth edition of "Trofeo Lombardia", organized by Pallacanestro Aurora Desio, took place during the weekend of 8-10 September. Love Design is an initiative aimed at raising funds for cancer care research. Thanks to the joint commitment of some Italian furniture design leading brands, supported by AIRC and ADI, which guarantee the prestige of this initiative in terms of product quality, Love Design manages to ease the connection between the excellence of Italian creativity, scientific research and charity. From the first edition in 2003 to date, Love Design provided over 18,000 design objects, supplied by 520 companies, raising founds over 2 million euro directed to the best scientific research. The AIRC fundraising during the October event will finance three triennial scholarships, 75 thousands euro each, for three young Italian researchers. As for all the projects promoted by the Association, the funds will be allocated according to a straight and meritocratic process. Rimadesio was an enthusiastic partner of this highly worthy initiative since the very beginning.
The Canadian magazine Azure gave a double award to the new Soho sliding doors, winner for "Architectural Products" and "People Choise" sections after an online vote on the magazine website. The jury, with influential representatives of the design world, appreciated the aesthetic value, the functionality and the technological quality, a unique combination characteristic of the Rimadesio proposal. Rimadesio approach has always been aimed to higher ecological goals, indeed the company is self-sufficient in power supply and certified according to the highest European standards; but today the word “ecology” means much more. Marco Belpoliti, among the most forward-looking Italian intellectuals, reminded us of that, by describing the birth (actually very recent, at the mid nineteenth century) and the etymological meaning of the term “ecology”, as well as its developments and environmental implications. A “back-to-Nature” goal that needs humans charging themselves of their choices, according to the consumption of either land, as well as objects and words. Finally, the homo faber is not required to deny his will to create, but to overcome the false myth of “novelty”.
Every year Rimadesio asks a different photographer to interpret the exclusive surfaces of its collection and it shows the results within the catalogue Stories and Matters. After Santi Caleca for 2016, this year was selected Nicolas Polli, young Swiss photographer and graphic designer. The making of his pictures is based on the concept of photo shooting as an unreal action, sorted by the assembly of multiple shots and the choice of unusual perspectives. For Rimadesio, Nicolas works on the perspective estrangement effect and the objects are floating without reference points in an undefined black space. Lightings improve the dynamism of shapes and enhance the finishing of each element.
The modular systems and their accessories are an integral part of the ongoing update of the Rimadesio collection. The pull-out shelves for Cover, Cover freestanding and Zenit can now be equipped with a new series of customized organizers in walnut, to fill or combine with accessories in argilla or castoro ecological leather. The goal is to provide highly customizable solutions to store watched, rings, ties, coins and other small items of everyday usage.

Talking about "architecture" is no longer common. The interiors are now considered as spaces to be filled rather than be defined: this is the theory expressed by Beppe Finessi and Marco Romanelli during the first (out of four) "Talking about..." event, that took place on May 25th at the Rimadesio Theatre in Milan.
A debate on different definitions (interior design or furnitures?), teaching, magazines, architect-client relationships and "equipped-houses". In summary, the focus was the great importance of interior spaces in the contemporary architecture.

The sliding systems, always the focus of the Rimadesio proposal, are now the key elements of a major technical and aesthetic evolution. The substantial improvement involves the sliding mechanism, now much lighter and more precise, combined with a series of patented solutions, designed to reach a complete architectural integration. Like the new black finish, perfectly concealing, applied to the new rails and various mechanical components, and the innovative rails covering profiles, available in the same finishes of the panel or prepared to be painted to match the ceiling. The new sliding system will be available from Autumn 2017.
Is it possible to identify a Company's DNA? Rimadesio thinks so and identified the following components of its DNA: Architecture, Technology, Ecology, Style.
Aware of the complexity of the meaning involved by the four words mentioned above, we decided to investigate it by inviting some experts in cultural fields related to design. The talks are scheduled in the Rimadesio Theatre in Milan during spring/fall 2017. We are almost sure that specifyng a DNA is a process that requires a clear vision about our mission, finely-tuned between purposes and results. By doing this, we aim to place a clear statement in the contemporary design debate.
25 May Architecture
Beppe Finessi & Marco Romanelli talk
The space first of all: “interiors” lessons of Italian masters of architecture.
Rimadesio stands out, compared to other brands, for the peculiar care that it pays to interiors layouts instead of interiors accessories. Thus, it is not matter of filling a space with furniture pieces, rather defining the space itself. According to this vision, it arises a clear reference to the great season of Italian design masters like Franco Albini, Carlo Mollino, Ignazio Gardella, Nanda Vigo. Such references stand nowadays as a manifesto.
Beppe Finessi, architect, was born in Ferrara in 1966. Associated professor at the Politecnico di Milano, previously editor of Abitare and director of Inventario since 2010.
He edited exhibitions and publications concerning the work of Italian design masters like Munari, Mangiarotti, Castiglioni, Magistretti and Mendini, but also contemporary designers like Ulian, Iacchetti, Novembre.
Marco Romanelli, designer and critic, was born in Trieste in 1958. Editor of Domus and Abitare, among his writings, the most noticeable are the monographs on Gio Ponti, Joe
Colombo, Gino Sarfatti, Ico Parisi, Bruno Munari, Paolo Ulian and Umberto Riva. As a designer, with Marta Laudani, he worked for some of the most famous Italian Companies
like Driade, O luce, Glas and Fiam.
6 July Ecology
Marco Belpoliti & Stefano Salis talk
100% eco - friendly new meanings and different involvements.
The environmental awareness, key component of Rimadesio's DNA, should be nowadays a “must”, eventually strengthened following the latest technological innovations, in any case isuch a theme cannot be ignored. As a matter of fact, the ecological approach is just partially shared, thus it is crucial, and almost vital, to talk about it. But this is not enough: it is also necessary to extend the use of the word ecology to new and unexpected fields.
Marco Belpoliti, born in Reggio Emilia in 1954, is professor at the Università di Bergamo. He published many books among which recently with Guanda: Primo Levi di fronte e di profilo and La prova. He edited the Meridiano for the writings by Gianni Celati and, with Einaudi, Primo Levi's Opere complete. He contributes to several journals and magazines and he edits, with others, Riga (Marcos y Marcos) and doppiozero.com.
Stefano Salis, was born in Sant’Antioco in 1970. He is an expert in several fields like editing graphics, bibliophily, literature and design. Journalist for Il Sole 24 Ore, he writes
every week on the Domenicale's Mirabilia column about book covers, exhibitions or personalities. He is also editor-in-chief of Commenti & Inchieste section.
28 September Technology
Angelo Cangelosi & Matteo Pirola talk
Man - robot: interactions: work in progress.
Technology for Rimadesio is a valuable tool, but it has to be silent. This means that Rimadesio never works with a selfish virtuosity, but finds the proper solutions following a
process of review of the goals achieved. Thus, technology is a key to preserve and improve Mankind. The aim of the latest technologies in every field, such as biomedicine, robotics, psychology and quantum physics, is to build our future.
Angelo Cangelosi, born in Alcamo in 1967, is Artificial Intelligence and Cognition professor and Director at the Centre for Robotics and Neural Systems at Plymouth University (UK). He recently published for MIT Press, with Matt Schlesinger, Developmental Robotics: From Babies to Robots. Since 2014 he is working on the projectTHRIVE (US Air Force Office of Science and Research).
Matteo Pirola, architect, PhD, was born in Cernusco sul Naviglio in 1975. He is professor of interior design and history of architecture at the Politecnico di Milano. He works as a critic, curator and researcher on contemporary art, design and architecture.
26 October Style
Luca Solca & Michele Lupi talk
Colors and finishings: a parallel universe related to form and function.
Style, for long considered a negative word in the design debate, is nowadays positively referred to all the characteristics of the brand identity. Thus, the style can be defined as the combination of the project's key elements and their specific finishings. Such finishings are special tools that follow, but also anticipate, the designer's work. How is it possible to forecast colors and finishings trends?
Luca Solca, born in Milano in 1963, he is trained in Economics and works as a fashion analyst. Director of Exane, Luxury Goods Company, part of the group BNP Paribas. He also writes for the website The Business of Fashion.
Michele Lupi was born in Milano in 1965 and in 1994 worked as Rizzoli's correspondent in New York City. Since 1999 he is part of the GQ Italia team. In 2003 he founded Rolling Stone Italia. Editor-in-chief of GQ Italia (2006-2011), Icon and Flair (2014). In 2015 he launched the magazine Icon Design.

The industrial production, as we all know, requires an important energy consumption and nowadays, to avoid negative environmental impacts, many companies are using solar energy systems. Rimadesio goes further: the Company is not just producing the needed energy for its requirements, but it is able to store the energy surplus. As a matter of fact, it is possible to plan the industrial production but not the sunbeam intensity. Therefore, the energy surplus to requirements is internally stored for later use. The solution is more efficient than the commonly-known and based on the energy surplus introduction into the electricity network and it following reuse. Rimadesio alternative, based on the innovative energy storage through lithium batteries of the latest generation, represents the most powerful industrial storage system on a large scale in Europe.

Give space to chance, error and unfinished': these are some of the key points of the ArchiZoic thought, as basic of the AtelierFORTE activity. Thus, following his principles, Duilio Forte is personally committed to the realization of 'Ursus', whose partner is Rimadesio, one of the 11setups, protagonists of the 'Stanze' event at the XXI Triennale di Milano. We find him working at site, busy assembling the impressive wooden structure, composing the mosaics, staring at the paintings, directing with visible enthusiasm the work of young employees of his Atelier. 'The work does not end in the project itself,' says the architect-artist, 'because the result depends mostly on its realization, as in a music opera.'
XXI Triennale International Exhibition
Palazzo dell’Arte, Milan
April 2nd to September 12th 2016
Already on the Spanish market for several years and with more and more growing results, Rimadesio is now opening a new monobrand store in Madrid, confirming a significant recognition of the design and style of the company.
The two floor exhibition space for a total area of 400 square meters, is overlooking the three sides of a prestigious building located in Calle de O'Donnell, in a commercial area for contemporary furniture. It shows a significant selection of the collection, including the latest novelties.
By the activation of the new photovoltaic system in May 2016, Rimadesio makes its own manufacturing capacity of solar energy more powerful, achieving a yearly production of 1,4 Kwh million, equal to the average consumption of 500 families. Furthermore a new system for collecting industrial energy will be activated, one of the first ever in Italy.A record confirming the particular orienting to the corporate innovation, a technological investment aimed at improving the relation with the environment we live in.
Design and improvement of the new structures have been committed to the historical partner Quotidia, now known as Alea Quotidia SpA and part of the important group Elettra investiments

A new Rimadesio flagship showroom, in partnership with Bespoke, has opened in Manila, in the heart of Fort Bonifacio, the privileged area by the best international design brands. Rimadesio is more and more increasing its presence into the Far -East market: after the opening of the showroom in Hong Kong last autumn, the spaces in Shanghai and Singapore will be inaugurated in October. An important result, achieved thanks to the valuable partnership with 'House of Madison', the prestigious eastern retailer. Rimadesio is among the brands of the made in Italy furniture signing the Mandarin Oriental in Milan, the first Italian hotel of the prestigious chain founded in Hong Kong in 1963. The studio Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel Interiors designed for each of the hotel suites, an original solution in glass, dividing the room from the wellness bathroom area. The partition is made by the Velaria sliding panels with mirror glass and anodized profile in a sample colour, which are alternated with fixed glass panels equipped with a liquid crystal technology. Through an electrical impulse, it makes the surface opaque, according to the requested need for privacy. A supply that confirms the technical versatility and reliability of Rimadesio.
